I've always been a fan of Ellen DeGeneres and it was interesting to hear a little of her background growing up.  She mentioned she grew up never owning a house as her family always rented, so when she was able to finally afford her first home she purchased a home immediately, and then another, and then another...

The 2011 article about Ellen and her wife Portia was fun to read in Architectural Digest and I love the style in their Beverly Hills home.  It's a mix of traditional, contemporary, fun, and lots of touches of the unexpected.

Perfect example of mixing traditional with contemporary.  They kept it cohesive by sticking to neutral colors with just a pop of color from the artwork and blanket.   I love that lamp hidden away in the far left corner!

Entry to their home and did you know that's a ping pong table in the center?  It's a gorgeous glass and steel table designed by Argentine artist Rirkrit Tiravanoja.

I noticed they keep to subtle patterns and neutral colors even with the artwork.  The Puma art on the wall is perfect!

This kitchen is spectacular with the green cabinets, warm wood floors, antique rugs, and steel cabinetry hanging above the kitchen island.

I'm guessing this is a hallway or library and how interesting with the circular room spotlighting the small statues in the center and collection of books.  I love that chandelier.  I'm seeing a trend here that I like their choices in lighting.

I love the blend of old and new again here in this office.  The earthy plum color of the settee and the antique rug and cabinetry is so subtle and rich.

You have to put your Emmy's somewhere and the antique hutch is the perfect location.

This cracks me up!  Portia's gorgeous high heels on the left and Ellen's colorful sneakers on the right.

The Honeymoon Cottage

Yes, I will admit to it.  I read the Twilight series and saw all the movies. After being surrounded by bawling teenage girls in the theater during the first movie, I was intrigued enough at that point to read the book series and see what all the hubbub was about.  Then of course I had to watch all the movies to make sure it followed the books.  Right?  Isn't that what we're supposed to do?  ;-)

Think what you may of the books/movies, the honeymoon cottage in the last movie did catch my eye!  I was hoping someone would post photos on the house and I was happy to see Joni at Cote de Texas did today.

My favorite room?  The closet!  The detail set designers put into their work is absolutely amazing!!

Even the small details like the pillows with the flange edge are amazing.  And the curtains are gorgeous!

So if you want to see more of this and get the history of the house and how it was built, you need to go to Cote de Texas as it's truly fascinating!

Madison Park Charmer

My husband and I are wanting to buy another home this year and so I've started to look online to see what's available on the market.  This 1940's home in the Madison Park area of Seattle appears small from the outside but actually has 2,760 of usable square feet and being less than a mile from UW Village...well, need I say more?  The only problem for us at least is we work on the eastside and this home would require us to take a toll bridge to get to/from work.  Right now we're averaging 1+ hour each way to commute and I don't think this would improve the situation, but it's so darn cute it's hard to stay practical.

Fantastic curb appeal!  

I love the hardwood floors and crown molding.  I also like the seller's eclectic taste of traditional and mid-century modern.  

Lots of windows which is important in Seattle as we need all the natural light we can get!

Nice size dining room and I like the darker paint as it makes the room a little more dramatic.  Again, plenty of natural light coming in so the room doesn't feel claustrophobic.

Perfect bar area.

Okay, I have mixed feelings on this kitchen.  On the plus size is it's visually appealing and has a nice flow to it.  Great sink and I like the lighting, tile flooring, and lots of natural light.  On the negative side is if they sellers were going through the expense of the remodel they seemed to fall short on the budget when it came to the granite tile counters.  And to be practical, there's very little storage space for everything.

But I still like it. :-)  Nice little corner for a desk!

I believe this is the master bedroom and the only thing I'm questioning is the flooring to the right of the bed.  Is that a step up to the hardwood floors?

And one of the best features of this home is the backyard.  Very well maintained and fully fenced so great for dogs.  There's plenty of space for entertaining too!

All in all, a very cute home in a desirable part of Seattle with beautiful homes surrounding it.  I think whoever is lucky enough to purchase it will enjoy it and the neighborhood.  If you want more information on this home, visit HERE.  

Pet Influenced Design

Melissa at The Inspired Room posed the question 2 days ago "Do Your Pets Match Your Floor"?  Well, let me introduce you to Fred our cat and the new throw rug I purchased at Macy's.  I've already been accused by my Interior Designer friend that our last house's interior was painted to match our dogs (grey, cream, and caramel) so this isn't a stretch for me apparently ;-)
